I also found this one from February. Just playing around with my Speedlight at dusk.

Saturday
I was digging through some old files that I never processed, and I found this from last February. This was the sunrise from my back porch. We had some truly amazing sunrises last winter!

Last November I joined the Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas. I've been very pleased with how active the group is. Although I've not participated in any of the group shoots or trips, I have gone to a couple of the meetings and taken a few classes. They mostly offer short informational classes that only meet once, but last month I took a Glamour Photography class that met 5 times, and we had a group model shoot on one of those nights. I wasn't quite as interested in the glamour aspect of it as I was in getting some studio experience. It was cool to learn about the lighting, and I hope that I'll be able to remember all of the info when I eventually invest in my own lighting equipment. Here are a handful of my favorite shots that I took at the model shoot. And let me go ahead and warn you that they are very pin-up/boudior-ish, because apparently that is what glamour photography tends to be about.

I upgraded to a new camera! Hooray!! I wasn't planning on upgrading right now, but I couldn't pass up a fabulous deal on a Nikon D7000. I got it the week before Easter, so on Easter afternoon we packed up my new camera and my son's trike and headed to the park. I snapped only a handful of pictures because he was a little grumpy. He had very specific ideas about where he did and did not want to stand, and he wanted to be riding his trike but not have it in the picture with him. Have I mentioned that he's two years old? :)

We met my Mom and Dad and two of my cousins and their families at a cabin last month. My Mom got everyone animal hats, so we took the opportunity to grab a couple of group photos. I pulled out the tripod and set it on self-timer mode. Here is my silly family!

These were from a few weeks ago when we were taking the Christmas tree down. He really liked the lights, so I let him fiddle with them for a few minutes and seized the opportunity to snap a few pictures.

One of my dear friends asked if I would take pictures at her son's 1st birthday party. I was honored to document such a big milestone! I'm not used to doing much indoor work - I generally stick to natural light. But I've been interested in learning more about flash and have wanted to get a better understanding of controlled lighting. And I've known that I needed a much better flash ... the SB-400 just wasn't cuttin' it. So after Christmas I ordered a new flash with some Christmas/birthday money, and my Nikon SB-700 arrived with enough time for me to read the manual and try it out a few times. This birthday party was my first big attempt at getting some decent photos with flash!
Let me just toot my friend's horn for a minute: she did an amazing job on this party! She put a lot of work into the details, and the kids really enjoyed it! My son came down with a fever on the day of the party, so my husband had to stay home with him. I'm still so sad that they missed it :(
He said "oooohhhh" to every present that was opened - so sweet!

Wednesday
Still slowly going through Christmas/post-Christmas pictures. My husband's sister was in town with us for Christmas, so on Christmas afternoon after we packed the car for our long drive, my husband, sister-in-law, son and I went down the street to an empty lot by our house to snap a couple of Merry Christmas photos.
I like this one of my sister-in-law. I especially like that you can see the reflection of the rest of us in her glasses :)

Last night I was working on some pictures from our family visit, and I came across this. I love this one of my son and my mother.
